English Vowel Sounds Cheat Sheet

I’ve been a literacy coach for 18 years, and I know that vowels are one of the most complicated parts of the English language. Understanding them is key to feeling confident with reading, writing and speaking.

We may have only a few vowel letters, but there are 15 different vowel sounds! Some vowels are spelled consistently, but most of them have multiple ways they can be spelled. Master English by attending to the sounds, the letters and the patterns to find logic.
